Sanjeev 'Catch everything' Khanna helps ARCC beat MS Reds
Saturday, July 10, 2010
Match# 10-22-I: American Recreation won by 4 wickets
Ron Regis Park, Renton, WA
Toss won by Microsoft Reds and elected to bat
Microsoft Reds: 108 for 10 in 37.3 overs
Batting highlights: Avinash Upadhyay 24(44)
Bowling highlights: Parthasarathy Govindarajen 3/8, Venkatramani Narayanan 3/23, Sanjeev Khanna 2/18, Kris Raman 2/26
American Recreation: 112 for 6 in 24.5 overs
Batting highlights: Anand Vaidyanathan 29(56), Imran Rafiq 26(20)*
Bowling highlights: Saurabh Verma 3/23, Aseem Datar 2/31
Man of the match: Sanjeev Khanna from American Recreation
Other notables
• MS Reds won the toss and elected to bat and were in trouble right away with Pradeep getting out caught and bowled to Sanjeev in the 5th over. Sanjeev took the first of his 4 tumbling catches to a ball that gently lobbed up off the top edge. In the very next over, Venkat struck two vital blows getting Srikanth Sundaragopalan lbw and dismissing Saurabh Verma bowled off the very next ball. MS Reds were in deep trouble at 10/3 by the end of 6 overs.
• Aseem Datar and Avinash Upadhyay staged a recovery by taking the score along to 51 before Avinash fell to well judged catch from Vibhu falling forward to a dying ball at mid off. Sanjeev then moved into the slip position and the ball started flying to his left and right and he kept catching them with elan. The next 2 wickets fell in a smilar fashion off the bowling of Kris and GP, with Sanjeev taking both the difficult catches with considerable ease. Reds slipped further to 65/6.
• Aware of the perils of letting the bottom order run away to a big score, ARCC bowlers bowled a consistent line and length and denied any width for the batsmen to free their arms. GP bowled 7 overs in a row at this stage and returned amazing figures of 7-2-8-3. With the fielders taking every chance coming their way, the MS Reds lower order were finding it difficult to get any momentum going. Srini focussed on taking the team to the end and put on 19 runs with Chenchu for the 7th wicket and 15 runs for the last wicket with Akshaya. Sanjeev took another sharp two-handed catch to send Thomas back and Anand V took the last 2 catches to complete a wonderful bowling and fielding performance by ARCC.
• ARCC opened their chase with Sunil chancing his arm and Anand content on playing the sheet anchor role. They took the score to 24 by the sixth over before Sunil was out bowled to Srikant off a very good slower ball. GP and Anand then added 43 runs in the next 10 overs playing good percentage cricket with minimum fuss. Saurabh Verma accounted for GP caught at short midwicket off a mishit and that triggered a wobble in the ARCC middle order.
• Anand was out in the next over after a well made 29, unfortunately crashing a drive right into Aseem's hands. Kris fell in the next over out lbw to Saurabh, but with only 28 runs required at that stage, ARCC held the upper hand. Ram Raghuraman and Vibhu played in a positive fashion in the company of Imran to score 20 runs in the next 5 overs, but both lost their wickets too.
• With 18 runs still required, Imran and Laks played and ran sensibly to finish things off with no further loss of wickets. Imran played a nerveless innings of 26 with 2 sixers and 2 fours, making sure he defended well the balls he was not hitting and hitting hard the ones he was and finished the innings with a six over midwicket.
• Sanjeev Khanna was adjudged the Man of the Match for his 4 fine catches and 2 wickets.
